Photo a day – Day 119/365

This is Timisoara, the second biggest city in Romania, the city where I was born and where I grew up nearly half of my life … a great place to grow up :).

So let me share some facts about this lovely city, you probably weren’t aware of!

1. Timisoara was the first city in Europe to have electric street lighting (1884).

2. Timisoara was also the first city in Europe to introduce horse-drawn trams (1869).

3. Timisoara is actually more or less multicultural, since the culture is influenced by various ethnic communities, such as German, Hungarian and Serbian.

4. Timisoara is also known as “The City of Parks” – I hope it still is, because lately the government has started to “modernize” the city and get rid of some lovely green spaces, such as Union Square (Piata Unirii).
